About

Sanada Enmei-in is a working shukubo in the Touge gate-town of Haguro-san, located about a six-minute walk from the famous cedar-avenue stone steps that lead up the mountain. The lodge has long supported the Dewa Sanzan three-mountain pilgrimage tradition and accepts both organised pilgrim groups and individual guests. Its specialty is the dedicated "hatsu-mairi gokito" (first-pilgrimage prayer) — a personalised Shugendo ritual performed for guests preparing to enter the three sacred mountains for the first time, along with practical consultation on mountain climbing routes for Haguro-san, Gas-san and Yudono-san. The official site provides detailed pilgrimage route information and access maps from each mountain to the lodge. Cuisine centres on local mountain ingredients (sansai, sesame tofu and seasonal vegetables) prepared by the host family, with morning service in the in-house shrine. Solo travellers, families and small groups are accepted; Wi-Fi is available. The lodge motif is the three-legged Yatagarasu crow that guides travellers in Japanese mythology — fitting for a shukubo whose role has always been to safely send pilgrims onto the mountain.
