About

Miyata-bo, formally Dewaji-no-Yado Miyata-bo, is a Touge gate-town shukubo at the foot of Haguro-san that has supported the three-mountain (Dewa Sanzan) faith of pilgrims for roughly 150 years. While many Touge shukubo retain a strictly traditional pilgrim-only model, Miyata-bo has gradually modernised its facilities and now welcomes a broader range of guests including general tourists, Gas-san climbers, retreat groups, conferences and lectures, in addition to pilgrim groups assigned to the lodge under the historical danna-ba system. Standard accommodation is roughly ¥10,000 per person with two meals, or about ¥5,000 with no meals; a multi-course shojin ryori dinner can be added by advance reservation. Returning guests on Japanese review sites particularly praise the warm hospitality of the host family, the relaxed bathing facilities and the home-cooked shojin ryori built around locally foraged ingredients. Miyata-bo is also listed on the Wa-Qoo training-lodge portal as a working shukubo where visitors can experience yamabushi-style mountain spirituality. Bookings are direct via the lodge's official website or phone.
