Salle d'entraînement Soto Zen en activité et temple secondaire d'Eiheiji, ouvert aux pratiquants sansen de court ou long séjour sans distinction d'origine.
Tenryu-ji is a branch temple of Eiheiji, founded in 1653 by Matsudaira Masakatsu, the first lord of Matsuoka. Since the addition of the Koboku-do meditation hall it has operated as an active sodo (Zen training hall) that accepts practitioners regardless of experience, gender, age, nationality or religion.
A regular zazen-kai is held on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of each month from 19:00 to 21:00, by reservation. Visiting practitioners can also discuss extended short-term or long-term sansen (live-in Zen training) directly with the temple.
Unlike most Eiheiji-area shukubo, Tenryu-ji is in central Matsuoka and reachable on foot from Matsuoka Station on the Echizen Railway, making it one of the most accessible Soto Zen training halls in Fukui by public transport.
